Disturbed:Sleep is a design collective based in Detroit and Southeast Michigan that produces original works of modern design. We offer both original furniture designs as well as custom design services. Our name stems from a common and willing sacrifice among good designers - late nights and a busy, restless mind. Our shared values include regional design and fabrication; product quality and its relationship to sustainability; originality as a reflection of our world; and the empowerment of new design talent. Regional Design and Fabrication We take pride in our quality and craftsmanship. All of our work is individually hand-crafted by the Detroit-based fabrication shop dormouse, a collective of craftsman and artisans located on the east side of the city. Through our professional partnership, we look forward to helping reinvigorate Detroit with a renewed creative and industrious spirit. Product Quality and its Relationship to Sustainability We feel an obligation as a producer of goods to minimize the footprint we leave as a business. The vitality of our world is a serious thing, and it is our firm belief that what is good for our planet can also be good for our business. Our belief is that an initially more expensive but well-built, well-designed product is more affordable in the long run  and certainly more sustainable than the ubiquitous cheap and disposable furniture that permeates the market today. Our pieces are meant to be timeless, lasting not years but generations. Divided over that timeline, money is saved and waste is reduced. Originality as a Reflection of Our World The first and primary objective of Disturbed:Sleep is to design interesting, fresh, and well-built furniture. For too long, the modern furniture business has been dominated by mid-century modern pieces, beautiful though they may be. We acknowledge our modern roots and immensely respect the great work of our predecessors, but feel we show them greater respect by carrying the torch forward. It is in this spirit that we design innovative and functional works of art, producing objects that are influenced by contemporary forces and a newly flattened, interconnected world. The Empowerment of New Design Talent One of our primary missions is to empower new designers, enabling them to bring beautiful objects and ideas into the world. With that in mind, D:S regularly seeks out new and unproven designers, keeping an eye out for the quality of the design rather than the notoriety of the name. D:S provides royalties to the designers with each piece sold, and regularly funds the development of new pieces by participating members. In this way you always know who your purchase is supporting.
